Symptoms of hypothyroidism1
  • fatigue
  • intolerance to cold
  • decreased sweating
  • dry, itchy skin
  • dry, coarse, brittle hair
  • hair loss
  • loss of appetite
  • weight gain/ difficulty losing weight
  • new or worsening problems with memory
  • more frequent and severe muscle cramps and joint aches
  • paresthesia
  • constipation
  • menstrual irregularity
  • depression/irritability
  • hoarse voice
  • hearing loss
  • goiter
  • bradycardia
  • elevated blood pressure
  • elevated serum cholesterol
     
Symptoms of hyperthyroidism2
  • nervousness
  • irritability
  • increased perspiration
  • tachycardia or palpitations
  • hand tremors
  • anxiety
  • difficulty sleeping
  • thinning of the skin
  • fine brittle hair
  • muscular weakness – especially in the upper arms and thighs
  • more frequent bowel movements (although diarrhea is uncommon)
  • weight loss
  • menstrual changes
